MCP Module
Turn Short-Term Wind Measurements into Long-Term Insights
The MCP (Measure-Correlate-Predict) module is for long-term correction of measured wind data on site and based on the correlation with long-term reference data. The module includes slicing and dicing, automatic time offset, comparison graphs and an uncertainty calculation.
Reliable AEP estimates with industry-trusted long-term correction tools
Long-Term Correction Made Easy
MCP ensures reliable long-term AEP estimates by correcting short-term measurements using high-quality reference data. With intuitive tools, graphs, and built-in analysis features, MCP helps predict future wind conditions with precision.
Recent updates have added powerful features, including:
- Smart uncertainty calculations based on data quality and correlation
- Auto-filtering of time offsets and veer correction
- Model training and testing for optimal setup
- Resampling of reference data to match local resolution (e.g., 1-hour to 10-minute)
- Distance-weighted averaging of multiple references
- Downscaling of mesoscale data to local terrain
- Scaling local data to retain natural variability and direction patterns
All designed to make long-term correction more accurate, flexible, and user-friendly.
Multiple Calculation Models
MCP offers four calculation models to fit your long-term correction needs:
- Speed Scaling: Simple and fast — scales reference wind speed to match local averages. Ideal as a baseline for comparison.
- Regression: Builds direction-specific regression models, using linear or polynomial fits for wind speed and veer. Fully customizable with visual tools.
- Matrix: Captures joint patterns of speed and direction changes. Smoother wind direction handling makes it ideal for complex veering behavior.
- Neural Network (ANN): Uses AI to model nonlinear relationships between reference and measured data. Great for advanced users seeking precision.
Each model gives flexibility to match your data quality and project complexity.
Compare and Validate Your MCP Setup
MCP makes it easy to test and compare different models and data setups:
- Sessions: Run multiple configurations side-by-side using different models, filters, and datasets. Results can be compared on key metrics like AEP uncertainty, wind speed correlation, and mean wind speed.
- Model Comparison: Analyze how each model performs using statistical indicators such as Bias Error, RMSE, and correlation scores — all summarized in clear overviews.
- Measured vs. Predicted: Visualize diurnal/monthly wind speeds and directional distributions to assess model accuracy.
Quickly identify the best setup for your project with data-driven confidence.
Choose the Best Long-Term Reference
Selecting the right long-term reference is critical for accurate AEP predictions. The MCP module helps you compare multiple reference datasets, analyze trends, and assess their impact on your results.
Use the built-in “Compare to other references” tool to evaluate how different datasets affect AEP, factoring in the specific measurement period.
Easily access 20-year reference data via windPRO Online, or load your own METEO data or wind index from PERFORMANCE CHECK.
Generate Wind Statistics and Time Series
MCP outputs either a long-term corrected wind statistic (via WAsP) or a time series, ready for direct use in PARK or resource map calculations.
Reports include:
- Session Overview: Compare results across sessions, including uncertainty metrics.
- Session Details: Review and compare model performance within each session.
