Who should attend?

The course is for windPRO users who want to learn PV plant design, energy production calculation, and perform photomontages and glare simulations.

Prerequisites:

BASIC course windPRO, or experienced users with good understanding of the: BASIS module of windPRO (UI, object details, object layers, etc.)

What you will learn:

  • How to design PV plant that utilizes the available area best
  • Calculate the energy production using solar irradiance and PV specifications, including shading loss calculation and generation of shading map
  • Optimize the PV plant design with the objective of maximizing the NPV output
  • Setup a photomontage and simulate the visual data of the PV plant including vegetation and fences
  • Advanced photomontage with Sketchup Integration
  • Assess the environmental impact of glare from the PV plant.

What you will learn (details):

Get a comprehensive understanding of the Solar module.

Participants will have hands-on experience with:

  1. Solar
  •  Define the project’s available area and plant parameters/design
  • Detail the equipment specifications, such as Solar panels and Inverters
  • Handle and load solar irradiance data
  • Setup an energy calculation and evaluate general losses
  • Add external shading elements and evaluate the shading losses
  • Generate a shading map from the shading loss calculation results
  • Optimize the plant design with the purpose of increasing the NPV. In the process a time series with electricity prices is generated.

  1. Photomontage of PV plant
  • Learn about the visual data for PV panels and substructures
  • Recommendations about photographing for Photomontages
  • Practice the calibration to get an accurate Camera model
  • Perform photomontage of PV plant, including vegetation, fences and transformer station
  • Use Sketchup Integration to enhance the photomontage.

  1. Glare
  • Presentation of the glare effect (reflections of the sun’s rays by PVs) and outline of some country-specific requirements
  • Define a GLARE calculation, including the effects from obstacles
  • Assess the results of Glare occurrence and intensity
  • Use Quick Glare View, which allow the users to see automatic updates of results if glare receptor is changed.

What NOT to expect:
Hybrid calculation is not part of the course, nor the detailed electrical design aspects of the PV plant, such as: string sizing, cabling and grid connections.
