windPRO: Greenfield (English) 1 session

Who should attend?

The course is aimed at windPRO users focusing on wind projects without wind data from site, i.e. scouting and greenfield scenarios. Obviously, results based on these methodologies can only be considered as preliminary.

Prerequisites:

windPRO BASIS Course. Taking the windPRO EYA course beforehand can help you better understand the content of this course, but it’s not mandatory.

What you will learn:

  • Overview of wind data available for prospecting in windPRO including windPROSPECTING, the Global Atlas of Siting Parameters (GASP) and EMD-WRF mesoscale data
  • Procedure of downscaling EMD-WRF mesoscale data to microscale
  • Procedure of calibrating the mesoscale data using distant masts
  • Generation of wind resource map using the downscaled and calibrated wind model
  • Preliminary positioning of the wind turbines
  • Preliminary AEP estimates

What you will learn (details):

Learn to import and use data from GASP and EMD-WRF representativeness in the absence of on-site wind measurements.

Fundamentals of flow modelling and downscaling procedures of EMD-WRF mesoscale data.

Using data from distant masts to calibrate and improve the downscaling procedure.

Generate a wind resource map of the site and compare it with the GASP map.

Perform basic micrositing, using the OPTIMIZE module, to create a preliminary wind farm layout, seeking the most resourceful positions while minimizing wake losses.

Finally, run a PARK calculation to obtain a preliminary estimate of the annual energy prediction (AEP), including wake losses.

What NOT to expect:
Losses & Uncertainties, bankable-level energy production calculations and detailed flow modelling theories will not be addressed in this course.
