In this newsletter you can find information about highlights of the year so far and what to expect from us.
Spring brings a renewed sense of energy, and across EMD, that energy is reflected in the way our teams collaborate, challenge ideas, and continue to push what is possible in the green transition.
Every day, we see how much impact is created when deep expertise meets curiosity and a shared purpose. It is this combination, across colleagues, partners, and customers that continues to shape how we evolve, not just as a company, but as part of a much bigger system.
Of course, this spirit also translates into how we develop our solutions. Across our product suite, we are making steady progress, from strengthening workflows and improving flexibility in modelling, to taking new steps toward more connected and accessible platforms.
But more importantly, we are doing this together, with you. Your insights, challenges, and ambitions continue to guide where we focus and how we move forward.
Thank you for being part of the EMD journey. We are excited about what we will build, and achieve, together in the months ahead.
Are you leaving money on the table?
Designing wind farms can be a balancing act: Noise limits, load constraints, distances etc. can make it difficult to squeeze in one more turbine. With new state‑of‑the‑art optimization tools you can unlock opportunities on sites once deemed unfeasible.
Learn how to extract extra production over the lifespan of a wind farm here.
Working with BESS?
The new Service Pack 3 comes with more 3D models of batteries and transformers for BESS visualizations.
A new version of our powerful software for optimisation of energy systems is going to be released on the 31st of April 2026. Version 5.1 represents a fundamental shift in how the software handles data, moving beyond fixed categories to a fully flexible, resourced-based architecture.
Release webinar: Sign up to an official energyPRO 5.1 webinar, which will be held on the 9th of April 2026 at 2PM CEST.

Are you curious what can energyPRO be used for? – See the use cases here.
We are well on the way of developing our first web application – vectIO. Using a plant-specific model, automated data updates, and advanced optimisation methods, vectIO continuously calculates the most efficient operating strategy for energy plants. Furthermore, vectIO provides high-value electricity market bids, increasing the economic potential of your assets.
The tool is built on experienced and well-established technology of energyTRADE.
We have started the year with several online-data releases in windPRO expanding coverage, improving accuracy, and enabling better renewable energy modelling worldwide.
When will ERA6 replace ERA5?
ERA6 is now in production at ECMWF - and we are 100% ready. The next generation reanalysis promises a massive leap in resolution and data quality… but just like us, you will have to wait: the first ERA6 data will not arrive until late 2027.

UK OS Terrain 50 (2025 release)
The latest UK elevation dataset is now available, featuring standardized grid formats and up-to-date terrain information. This ensures consistency and reliability for projects across Great Britain.
Rwanda 10 m DEM – advancing open data in Africa
We have introduced Rwanda’s first nationwide, analysis-ready elevation dataset. Optimized for wind and solar applications, it supports everything from resource assessment to infrastructure planning -marking an important step for open geospatial data in Africa.
Upgraded Denmark elevation data (DHM)
The new DHM dataset delivers significantly improved terrain accuracy (down to ~5 cm vertical precision) and flexible resolutions from 0.4 m to 20 m. This upgrade strengthens the foundation for reliable wind modelling across Denmark.
Complete elevation coverage across the Kingdom of Denmark
With the addition of high-resolution datasets for Greenland and the Faroe Islands, windPRO now offers full terrain coverage across the entire Kingdom. These datasets provide detailed DSM/DTM models, ready for analysis and seamlessly integrated - making project development in even the most remote regions more accessible.
Once a year, our consultants gather to exchange knowledge and sharpen our thinking - and this year the team of 15 came together in Aalborg, with colleagues joining from Denmark, Romania, Brazil, India, and Spain.
The topic was the future: what renewable energy players will need in the years ahead, and how we can develop our services to meet that.
The gathering reminded us that our combination of wind and solar resource expertise with deep knowledge of electricity markets and energy systems is exactly what it takes to generate value in today's complex energy landscape: whether it is dimensioning BESS, seeing possibilities where grid capacity is limited, or unlocking opportunities in C&I, we feel well prepared - and genuinely excited about the challenges ahead.
Good discussions, good people, and plenty to take back home.
Attending exhibitions, conferences etc. is always a relevant opportunity for us to reconnect with existing clients and network, see what is going on in the industry.
During the coming months you can meet us at:
WindEurope Annul - Madrid, Spain
33rd District Heating Spring Symposium – Zakopane, Poland
AAU Research Day - Aalborg, Denmark
All-Energy – Glasgow, Scotland
